How a Simple Editing Tip Can Transform Your AI Music Videos

I recently put together a video about an easy video editing trick that can seriously elevate the quality of your AI music videos. It’s a small adjustment, but trust me, it makes a huge difference—especially when you’re showcasing all that creative energy you’ve poured into your projects.

If you’ve ever dealt with annoying gaps in your footage or wondered how to blend tools like Canva, Leonardo AI, and Runway into your workflow, this is for you. Let’s break it all down.

Why This Tip Matters

Let’s face it—when you’re working on AI music videos, you’re probably juggling a lot: the music, the visuals, the editing… it’s a whole production. But one thing I’ve noticed, especially when people share their YouTube submissions, is this recurring issue: those weird edge gaps that pop up when you’re working with footage that’s not quite 1080p. It’s such a small thing, but it’s incredibly distracting for viewers.

Here’s the kicker: fixing this is so simple, yet so many people miss it. I did too, back when I started making videos for marketing my company. A mentor pointed it out, and it’s been a game-changer ever since. It’s one of those tips that makes you go, “Why wasn’t I doing this all along?”

Tools You’ll Need

For this particular trick, I used DaVinci Resolve, but you can absolutely apply it in other editing programs like Premiere Pro. Here’s why I love Resolve: it’s free, it’s high-end, and it’s what a lot of pros use for cinema-quality production. (Yes, even Hollywood and universities here in Australia!)

Other tools I mentioned in the video:

  • Canva: Great for sourcing stock footage and laying out visuals.

  • Leonardo AI: Perfect for creating unique, AI-generated imagery.

  • Runway: Adds motion to static images, making your visuals dynamic and engaging.

This combo gives you a lot of creative control, and the results can be stunning. The key is learning how to make them work together seamlessly.

The Editing Trick: Fixing Edge Gaps

Now, let’s get to the good stuff—the actual tip.

When you’re editing, sometimes your clips don’t fill the entire screen, especially if the footage isn’t perfectly sized for 1080p. You might see black bars or edges at the top and bottom, and while it might seem like a minor detail, it’s super noticeable. Here’s how to fix it in DaVinci Resolve:

  1. Open your project in Resolve and head to the main editing screen.

  2. Select the clip that’s giving you trouble.

  3. Look for the little icon with lines (it’s the editing tools menu).

  4. Drag the edges of your clip to fill the screen completely.

It’s literally that simple. But it’s one of those things where, once you see the difference, you’ll never want to skip it again. It instantly makes your video look polished and professional.

Combining Tools for Dynamic Visuals

In the video, I also shared an example of how I’m combining tools like Canva, Leonardo AI, and Runway to create visuals for my songs. The song I’m working on is about forgetting people’s names at networking events (yes, it’s as awkward as it sounds). Here’s how I approached it:

  • Canva: I grabbed some stock footage to set the stage.

  • Leonardo AI: I used it to generate unique, thematic imagery that tied into the song’s vibe.

  • Runway: This tool brought the static images to life with motion, giving the visuals a dynamic feel.

The result? A video that feels cohesive and engaging, even with a quirky theme like forgetting names.

Why Details Matter

You might be wondering, “Does anyone really notice these tiny details?” The short answer: absolutely. Even if viewers can’t pinpoint what’s wrong, their experience is subconsciously affected. Distracting visuals or poor editing can take away from the impact of your content, and that’s the last thing you want when you’ve worked so hard on your music.
