Can You Upload AI Music to DistroKid

The short answer? Yes, but with conditions.
DistroKid itself doesn’t ban AI music, but the platforms they distribute to (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) have their own rules. That means even if DistroKid lets you upload, your music could still get removed if it violates their policies.
🔍 What DistroKid Says About AI Music
Someone in a Facebook group reached out directly to DistroKid and got this response:
✅ You CAN upload AI-generated music as long as it doesn’t impersonate real artists.
❌ You CAN’T use AI vocals that mimic real singers without permission.
❌ You CAN’T use an AI-generated artist name without written consent.
Basically, if you’re making original AI music, you should be fine. If you’re trying to pass off an AI-generated Drake song as real? Yeah, that’s not gonna fly.
🚨 Why Are Some AI Songs Getting Taken Down?
Even if your track is completely original, there are a few reasons why it could still get removed:
1️⃣ Copyright Issues: If the AI-generated song closely resembles an existing track, platforms might flag it as a copyright violation.
2️⃣ Label or Artist Complaints: If someone reports your song for sounding too similar to a famous artist, it could trigger a takedown.
3️⃣ AI Music Regulations Are Changing: Apple Music, for example, now asks artists to declare what part of their song is human-made before approving uploads.
The rules are evolving FAST, so what works today might not work tomorrow.
🎧 Alternative Ways to Release AI Music
If you’re worried about losing your music on major platforms, here are some backup strategies to keep your AI tracks online:
1️⃣ Upload to YouTube & Monetize It Differently
YouTube has no problem with AI music (for now). Even if you can’t monetize directly through ads, you can:
💰 Sell your music on Gumroad or Bandcamp (put links in the description)
💰 Offer paid downloads through your own website
2️⃣ Use AI-Friendly Platforms
Some platforms embrace AI music instead of restricting it. Consider:
✅ Flare AI Radio – Specifically built for AI-generated tracks
✅ SoundCloud & Bandcamp – Less restrictive than Spotify
3️⃣ Spread Out Your Distribution
Instead of relying ONLY on DistroKid, use:
🎵 Amuse – Free music distribution with no upfront cost
🎵 RouteNote – Lets you keep more control over your releases
The key? Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.

📢 Final Thoughts – The Future of AI Music is Unwritten
DistroKid, Spotify, and Apple Music haven’t fully decided how they’ll handle AI music yet. The rules are still being shaped in real-time, which means if you’re an AI musician, you NEED to stay one step ahead.
